The Arts Society (TAS) was founded in 1968, (then under the name of the National Decorative and Fine Arts Society) to promote and advance aesthetic education, to cultivate the appreciation and study of the decorative and fine arts and by giving aid to the conservation of our national artistic heritage. The Arts Society Mendip has been a member society of TAS since 1982.

Our society usually meets in the morning of the first Tuesday of the month. These main meetings take the form of an illustrated lecture in Croscombe Village Hall, BA5 3RJ, and are usually simultaneously available on Zoom. The lecture starts at 11am. 

In addition we run Days of Special Interest also take place in which subjects are studied in greater depth. Our speakers, who are all experts in their specialist fields, are taken from a directory maintained by TAS which ensures a high standard.

We organise visits to historical and cultural venues, and most years we organise a 4-5 day home or overseas tour. This programme gives our members many opportunities to catch up with old friends, meet new people and visit new places. The Arts Society Mendip also supports a volunteer programme including Young Arts and Heritage Volunteers.
